Endemic species are animal species that are only found in one country in the world. Costa Rica has 146 species that are only found in their country. There is a reason Costa Rica has so many, among which are its location, its climate, its geographical history, and its environments. Millions of years ago, when the two Americas were first connected by the land bridge of Central America, animals flooded into this new habitat. Before they were connected, however, Costa Rica was geographically isolated, giving its species to adapt uninfluenced by others, and fully unique. It also has a neotropical climate and wide range of habitats, allowing many species an easy adaptation and environment to live in.
